Rank Yourself at a World Masters Swimming Championship

Charts with placings in individual events at two previous World Masters Swimming Championships are shown here. These competitions are held every 2 years in different cities around the world.

Although these charts are now *VERY OLD*, they nevertheless give you an idea of the sort of times which were swum. The information was crunched eons ago from the 1996 Sheffield, UK and the 2000 Munich, Germany World Masters swimming Championships. Results for the 2002 Christchurch, NZ event were crunched in a different manner and have been placed in the oddball section.

If you had, for example, attended Munich 2000, you would have been rubbing shoulders with over 4,700 fellow Masters (55% men/45% women) from over 1500 clubs in 66 countries competing in 16,000 heats. If you had wanted to check out the raw results for this 2000 meet, they produced a monster 674 page pdf file and unfortunately, thats still the way it is.

OK, back to the charts. The placings for each event and age group were tabulated into 32 charts (one chart for each stroke/distance) which provides an interesting insight into the placing you could have achieved if you had attended this event. These charts were prepared so they could suggest which stroke, distance and time you would need to target if you wanted to make the top 10 at subsequent World Masters meets. The charts also show how you might compare when advancing to the next agegroup.

As some events had over 100 finishers and there was a large time difference between the various agegroups, the charts would have been prohibitively congested if all the placings had been shown. These charts therefore only show the first 25 placings (in some cases there were less than 25 participants) for the 10 agegroups spanning 25-70. All the charts use the same format.
